First China Fishmeal Industry Conference Held in Huangpu, Guangzhou

The first China Fishmeal Industry Conference was held in Huangpu District, Guangzhou, on September 20 and 21.

Guangdong is one of China’s major aquaculture provinces and has strong demand for fishmeal. The Old Huangpu Port is a major entry point for fishmeal imports, handling more than 40 percent of the national total each year. It began receiving fishmeal shipments in the 1980s, and a network covering imports, storage, distribution and settlement has since developed around the port.

To help companies expand their feed import channels, Old Huangpu Port Customs has briefed them in advance on China’s zero-tariff policy for African countries and guided them through applications for preferential treatment. It has also introduced measures combining tariff preferences with customs guarantees to help eligible imports receive the benefits available to them. Together with measures introduced by the General Administration of Customs, including streamlined quarantine approval and the conditional removal of goods from the port, these steps help speed up customs clearance for imported fishmeal.

Customs has also worked with local authorities, port operators and industry associations to advance the development of the Huangpu Port International Fishmeal Trade Innovation Park, integrating customs supervision and services into the industry’s supply chain.

From January to August this year, Old Huangpu Port Customs supervised the import of 457,000 metric tons of fishmeal. It will continue to support the development of the fishmeal and other animal-derived feed industries, helping more high-quality imported feed arrive at Pearl River ports for distribution and reach aquaculture producers more quickly and reliably.
