An exchange event on cross-border cooperation in innovative drugs, themed “China and Thailand Join Hands for a New Chapter in Medicine,” was recently held in Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City. An innovative drug cooperation platform jointly established by Guangzhou Royal Lee Cancer Center and Thailand’s National Cancer Institute was unveiled at the event, marking a shift in cross-border oncology cooperation from academic exchanges to commercialization and clinical application.

Designed as a high-level hub for cross-border healthcare cooperation, the platform will focus on the two-way transfer and application of cutting-edge cancer treatment technologies. It will seek to address practical barriers to cross-border clinical collaboration, the introduction of innovative drugs and international patient referrals. The platform will establish regular links between China’s clinical translation pipeline for innovative drugs and Thailand’s national cancer prevention and control network. Combining their respective strengths, the two partners will help Chinese innovative drug companies access clinical settings in Thailand and explore pathways for bringing new drugs into clinical use through cross-border research and real-world data.
To date, Guangzhou Development District and Huangpu District have attracted more than 5,200 innovative drug and medical device companies. More than 100 new drug applications have been submitted so far this year. The area has secured marketing approvals for Class 1 innovative drugs for six consecutive years, bringing the cumulative total to 14.
