Guangzhou’s Huangpu Invests 170 Million Yuan in Elderly Care

Since 2025, Huangpu District in Guangzhou has invested 170 million yuan in improving elderly care resources across the district, introducing a coordinated set of measures to develop a new model of elderly care.

Huangpu is encouraging companies across the silver economy value chain to cluster in the district, accelerating efforts to develop a high-standard national-level silver economy industrial park with distinctive strengths and a strong concentration of businesses. Last year, the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area’s first silver economy industrial park was established in Huangpu, providing a quality platform for business clustering, technology research and development, and project implementation, while helping ease the burden on businesses.

As part of its focus on technological innovation in the silver economy, the district held the second Guangzhou Innovative Design Competition for Smart Health and Elderly Care (Age-Friendly) Equipment, attracting 280 high-quality entries from China and abroad. To help put the entries into practical use, the initiative has established links with a total of 40 investment and financing institutions and eight showrooms for age-friendly equipment. These resources are helping bring competition entries to market and drive technological innovation in the silver economy.

To date, Huangpu has built, to high standards, one district-level comprehensive elderly care service center, 17 Yikang elderly care centers in towns and subdistricts, 156 Yikang elderly care service stations in villages and residential communities, and 190 canteens for older residents. Together, they form an elderly care system based on home care, supported by community services and professional care from institutions, and integrating medical and elderly care services.
