A new cross-river transport link will connect Guangzhou’s Huangpu District with the Dongguan Water Town Characteristic Development Economic Zone. Once completed, it is expected to shorten travel time from Machong in Dongguan to Huangpu by 15 to 20 minutes. The link will provide a direct connection to the western section of Guangzhou Development Zone, eliminating the need for a lengthy expressway detour. It will also divert traffic from the existing Dongjiang Bridge, helping reduce delays during peak hours.
The Dongjiang Crossing will span 3,055 meters, including a 2,535-meter tunnel. It will be built to standards for both a Class I highway and an urban arterial road, with six lanes accommodating traffic in both directions. With a planned total investment of approximately RMB 4.698 billion, construction is expected to begin in January 2027, with the crossing scheduled to open to traffic in June 2030.
