Zhiguang Electric’s Coota Solid-State Transformer Demonstration Base Officially Begins Operations in Huangpu, Guangzhou

On Aug. 7, the commissioning ceremony for Guangzhou Zhiguang Electric Co., Ltd.’s (“Zhiguang Electric”) Coota solid-state transformer (SST) demonstration base in Huangpu, Guangzhou, was held at Zhiguang’s Yonghe New Energy Storage Industrial Park, alongside a dedicated technical exchange on SST technology.  

Chen Jianhua, deputy secretary-general of the Guangzhou Municipal Government, said in his remarks that the project is the first solid-state transformer demonstration project in Guangdong Province based entirely on independently developed intellectual property. He described it as another major homegrown technological achievement reflecting Guangzhou’s development of new quality productive forces. Chen noted that the rapid growth of emerging industries such as artificial intelligence and advanced chips is profoundly reshaping the global energy landscape. Solid-state transformers have entered a critical window for industrialization, and Zhiguang Electric’s product directly targets the emerging field of “computing-power–electricity coordination,” offering an efficient solution developed in Guangzhou to address the energy-consumption bottleneck constraining the expansion of computing capacity.  

Chen said Guangzhou will focus on three priorities. First, it will strengthen innovation-driven development by promoting the establishment of a solid-state transformer innovation consortium, supporting industry associations in leading the formulation of association standards for wider adoption, establishing public testing and real-world validation platforms, and pursuing breakthroughs in critical bottleneck technologies. Second, the city will expand application scenarios by developing a number of demonstration projects in such fields as new-type energy storage power stations, smart microgrids, ultra-fast charging stations, industrial parks, rail transit systems and AI computing centers, using real-world applications to drive iterative industrial upgrading. Third, Guangzhou will build an industrial ecosystem by adopting a value-chain approach to strengthen existing links, fill gaps and extend the industrial chain. The city aims to cultivate an RMB 10 billion-scale solid-state transformer industry cluster and place itself at the forefront of the sector nationwide.  

At the event, Zhiguang Electric signed letters of intent for the procurement of solid-state transformers with seven companies, including Wanjia Denghuo Energy Group Co., Ltd. The agreements are intended to establish long-term, stable partnerships for industrial collaboration and accelerate the commercialization and market expansion of Zhiguang Electric’s Coota solid-state transformers. Ten guests representing government departments, industry associations and enterprises then took the stage to jointly mark the commissioning of the demonstration base, signaling the project’s official transition into a new phase of demonstration operations and external service provision.
