As a key node on the ancient Maritime Silk Road, the Fuxu Ancient Canal in Huangpu District, Guangzhou, is a vital waterway that has carried the legacy of the Maritime Silk Road for more than 900 years. Following renovation, the canal has taken on a new look. It is expected to launch day and night tours as early as October 2026, allowing visitors to take evening boat cruises and enjoy the illuminated scenery.
Built around its flagship cultural IP, “Fuxu Twelve Hours,” the project aims to develop a distinctive Maritime Silk Road-themed cultural tourism complex. It is planned to operate daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., a total of 12 hours, and create an immersive visitor experience linking daytime and nighttime activities. Guided by the development principles of “recreation throughout the site, performances by day and night, integration of past and present, and harmony between Chinese and international cultures,” the project will feature the Golden Fuxu Pearl spherical display, a water-curtain fountain light show, three wharf areas at Lubugang, Anli and Shizijiao, riverside art installations, commercial service points, and cultural and creative merchandise. Together, these elements will form an immersive visitor experience.
Installation of the project’s core hardware, including the sound, lighting and multimedia performance systems, fountain system and spherical display, has recently been completed.
The Golden Fuxu Pearl is Guangdong Province’s first ultra-high-definition spherical display. Measuring 16 meters in diameter and covering a display area of 600 square meters, it can present a wide range of 3D visual effects and is visible from as far as one kilometer away.
