AI Computing Power Drives Huangpu’s Push into the Billion-Yuan Short Drama Industry

On July 17, the inaugural general meeting of the Guangzhou Huangpu District Film and Short Drama Association and the Conference on the High-Quality Development of the Film and Short Drama Industry were held. On the same day, the Guangzhou Huangpu District Film and Short Drama Association, initiated by more than 50 organizations, was officially unveiled. Also launched were the “Greater Bay Area Smart City Model Marketplace,” multiple filming and overseas distribution bases, and a number of industry-education integration projects. As the number of micro-drama users in China surpasses 700 million and the market size exceeds 100 billion yuan, Huangpu is exploring an integrated “AI + short drama” approach to connect the entire industry chain, from computing power to talent cultivation.

The conference elected the first council and supervisory members of the association. Science City (Guangzhou) Digital Technology Group Co., Ltd. was elected as the chairing organization, while Zhongguancun Yigu (Guangzhou) Technology and Cultural Development Co., Ltd., Guangdong Balian Culture Media Co., Ltd., and Guangzhou Huangpu Branch of China Telecom Co., Ltd. were elected as vice-chairing organizations. Nine other organizations were elected as council members. An industry collaboration platform covering key stages including scriptwriting, filming, technology and distribution has begun to take shape.

“The Guangzhou Huangpu District Film and Short Drama Association has brought together outstanding enterprises across the industry chain and created a platform for exchange, mutual benefit and shared growth,” said Mei Shenghong, a member of the Standing Committee of the Huangpu District Committee and head of the district’s Publicity Department. “Taking the establishment of the association as a new starting point, Huangpu will foster a new short drama ecosystem and build greater brand recognition for ‘Produced in Huangpu.’”
