Updated : 2026-06-22

Luogang Lychee Market in Huangpu District, Guangzhou, has officially opened to visitors.
Although this year is considered an off-year for lychee production, the Luogang Lychee Market remains bustling, with bright red, plump lychees on display throughout the market.

On June 15, the much-anticipated Luogang Lychee Market in Huangpu District, Guangzhou, officially opened. This year’s market will run for 30 days until July 14.
Lychee cultivation in Luogang dates back to the Han Dynasty. For more than a thousand years, the traditions of growing, admiring and tasting lychees have been passed down from generation to generation. Today, Luogang is home to more than 20 premium lychee varieties. Among them, Luogang Guiwei, Bigang Nuomici and Zengcheng Gualv are collectively known as the “Three Premier Lychee Varieties” and are widely regarded as iconic Lingnan lychees.
Luogang Subdistrict in Huangpu District is home to one of the largest clusters of ancient lychee groves in Guangdong Province. Many native ancient lychee trees are preserved in parks including Xiangxue Park, Innovation Park and Shanxia Ancient Lychee Tree Park. An ancient lychee tree at Yuyan Academy is 1,025 years old, making it the oldest surviving lychee tree in Guangzhou and a living witness to Luogang’s lychee culture.
