Worth the Year-Long Wait: Huangpu Lychees Set to Hit the Market

Updated : 2026-06-18

"Lychees thrive across Guangdong, and premium lychees hail from Huangpu." The annual Huangpu Lychee Season has arrived right on schedule. High-quality varieties—including Luogang Guiwei, Luogang Nuomici, Xianjiang Shuangjianhong, Xinlong Diding, and Bingli—will hit the market in succession. The Luogang Lychee Market will officially open on June 15.

Lychee cultivation in Huangpu boasts a history of more than 1,000 years. The district covers a total planting area of approximately 24,000 mu (about 1,600 hectares), which features a 10,000-mu (about 667 hectares) grove of century-old lychee trees. Core production areas encompass subdistricts and towns including Luogang, Yunpu, Yonghe, and Xinlong. With a history of nearly 600 years, the Luogang Lychee Market ranks among Guangzhou’s oldest lychee trading hubs.

Huangpu boasts a rich variety of lychees, each with its own unique characteristics. The Luogang Nuomici is a National Geographical Indication Product, featuring thick flesh and small pits with a tender, smooth, and refreshingly sweet taste. As a renowned premium lychee of the Lingnan region, it will become available in mid-to-late June. The Luogang Guiwei is hailed as one of the "Three Outstanding Lychees." Its crisp flesh exudes a natural osmanthus fragrance, and the variety stores well while boasting an exceptional flavor.
The Xianjiang Shuangjianhong has a cultivation history of over 600 years. Known for its distinctive fruit shape and a rich, mellow honey aroma, its collective trademark has been officially registered. Cultivated in superior natural conditions with excellent soil and water resources, the Xinlong Diding stands out for its fine appearance and premium taste. The rare and precious Bingli variety boasts silky-smooth flesh and an extremely sweet flavor. Dubbed the "Hermès of Lychees," it will be the first variety to hit the market in mid-June.
This refreshingly sweet, summer-exclusive delicacy from Huangpu is ready for harvest. The annual fresh sweetness of these ancient lychees is truly worth the wait.
