China's First Fully Self-Developed Robotaxi Rolls Off the Production Line in Guangzhou

Updated : 2026-05-22

On May 18, XPeng Motors saw its first full-stack self-developed, factory-installed, and mass-produced Robotaxi roll off the production line in Guangzhou. He Xiaopeng, Chairman and CEO of XPeng, stated on Weibo: "This is China's first mass-produced, pure-vision Robotaxi to roll off the production line, and it is expected to begin pilot operations in the second half of this year."
As China’s first full-stack self-developed and factory-installed mass-produced Robotaxi, the model is built on XPeng’s flagship GX platform. It is equipped with four in-house developed Turing AI chips, boasting an effective computing power of 3,000 TOPS—the highest in-vehicle computing power globally. It also carries XPeng’s second-generation VLA large model, enabling Level 4 (L4) autonomous driving capabilities.

The XPeng Robotaxi relies on neither LiDAR nor high-definition (HD) maps; instead, it is driven by a pure-vision solution combined with the second-generation VLA large model. This model eliminates the language translation step found in the traditional "vision-language-action" three-stage architecture. By compressing the system response latency to under 80 ms, it delivers more precise decision-making and faster responses, while possessing the generalization capability for cross-city deployment. Additionally, the vehicle features a dual-redundancy safety design across six major systems, including computing power and braking.
Previously, at XPeng’s 2025 Tech Day, He Xiaopeng addressed ecosystem cooperation for this business segment, stating that XPeng would open its Robotaxi SDK. He also announced that Amap (AutoNavi) would become its first global ecosystem partner.
The rollout of this mass-produced vehicle marks a critical step for XPeng in advancing its physical AI technology from research and development to large-scale commercialization. It also lays a solid foundation for the company to seize early opportunities in the massive future mobility market. (Text/Photo by Huangpu Fabu)
