"Coffee & City" Vibes: Huangpu Coffee Market and Music Carnival Launches

Updated : 2026-05-19

Recently, the "Kala OK, Coffee City" Huangpu Coffee and Music Carnival kicked off at the outdoor square of Grand Joy in Huangpu, Guangzhou. As a highlight of the 2026 Huangpu Coffee Season, the carnival integrates coffee and music elements, collaborates with local coffee brands and outdoor music IPs, and enriches residents' leisure lives while stimulating consumer spending through diverse formats, including performances, markets, and featured competitions. Co-hosted by multiple departments in Huangpu District, the two-day event concluded on May 17.

From May 16 to 17, the carnival's coffee brand market was in full swing, bringing together numerous local specialty coffee brands and smart coffee equipment. Featuring formats such as light food and cultural and creative products, the market allowed residents to immerse themselves in a trendy coffee lifestyle.

The event premiered new love-themed drip-bag coffee products, adding a romantic touch to the consumer experience ahead of the May 20 ("520") Valentine’s Day. Simultaneously, special outdoor music performances were staged at night, with a variety of hit songs performed back-to-back, creating a vibrant and immersive atmosphere.

The Agricultural Bank of China (ABC) set up interactive financial literacy activities on-site, popularizing anti-fraud and consumer protection knowledge in an entertaining way.
Organizers stated that the event blends coffee, music, and urban vibrancy to reshape the district's trendy leisure image. Leveraging the heavy foot traffic of the commercial district, the two-day event was expected to attract over 50,000 visitors and generate revenue exceeding RMB 200,000.

The inaugural 2026 "Residents' Cup" Coffee Exchange Competition of the Huangpu Residents' Academy was also officially launched, marking the first mass coffee competition for the general public in Guangzhou. The event will run for three months, from May to July.
The competition features two categories: a triangular cupping challenge and a pour-over coffee competition. Open to all residents with no entry barriers, the events are judged on-site by professional juries. Relying on the comprehensive platform of the Huangpu Residents' Academy and large-scale coffee industry colleges, the competition aims to popularize coffee culture, discover and cultivate local amateur coffee talent, boost residents' skills for employment and entrepreneurship, form a coffee volunteer team, and promote coffee culture within communities.

Focusing on popularization, exchange, and cultivation, the competition de-emphasizes professional competitiveness and incorporates professional instruction to lower the barrier to participation. Currently, Guangzhou's coffee industry chain is becoming increasingly comprehensive, giving rise to a variety of emerging occupations highly favored by young people.

The opening event created an immersive coffee experience by integrating competitions, performances, and markets. Subsequent featured activities will be launched throughout the Huangpu Coffee Season to continuously enrich urban cultural life, culminating in a closing ceremony on Changzhou Island at the end of July.
