Major Innovation Platform Lands in Guangzhou's Huangpu District

On May 12, the "Greater Bay Area Biomedical Future Industry Innovation Forum and the Inauguration Ceremony of the Greater Bay Area Biomedical Future Industry Innovation Center" was held at Lingnan Hospital of the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University. The innovation center was officially unveiled during the event.

Positioned as an integrated innovation hub combining healthcare, industry, academia, research, and application, the center is rooted in Huangpu, serves the Greater Bay Area, and looks toward the global market. It will focus on five cutting-edge sectors, including stem cells and cell therapy, marking Huangpu’s transition in biomedical development from "single-point breakthroughs" to "systematic breakthroughs" across the entire industrial chain.

At the event, Huangpu District and the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University signed a cooperation agreement. Huangpu District will support the renovation of research facilities and provide policy guarantees, while the hospital will open its clinical service resources and cutting-edge application scenarios. The two sides will also jointly establish an industrial innovation consortium.

Gu Xiaosong, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, noted that the innovation center will be driven by clinical needs and integrate resources from multiple parties to build a source of original innovation. Experts attending the forum shared cutting-edge achievements and unanimously recognized the center’s innovation value.

Reportedly, the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University possesses strong advantages in clinical research, while Huangpu District is home to more than 4,800 biomedical enterprises, forming an industrial cluster valued at over RMB 100 billion. Huangpu District has also introduced its "Biomedical 3.0" policy, providing full-chain services to help the innovation center bridge the "last mile" of commercializing scientific and technological achievements, thereby promoting the high-quality development of the biomedical industry in the Greater Bay Area.
