Guangdong’s 10th Trillion-Yuan Industry Cluster Arrives! Huangpu Breaks Through with "Screen" Strength

Updated : 2026-03-04

Recently, Guangdong officially announced a major milestone: in 2025, the operating revenue of the province’s ultra-high-definition (UHD) video industry cluster reached 1.08 trillion yuan. This makes it Guangdong's 10th trillion-yuan industry cluster and the very first of its kind nationwide, adding a robust new pillar to the province's modern industrial system.

The Printed OLED Revolution

For a long time, South Korean companies like Samsung and LG have dominated the OLED space using traditional vapor deposition processes. However, TCL CSOT chose to relentlessly pursue printed OLED technology instead.

This disruptive manufacturing concept is akin to drawing on a substrate with a high-precision printer. OLED materials are converted into ink and precisely deposited into pixel areas via inkjet printing. Due to its high technical difficulty and previously uncertain commercialization prospects, many companies had shied away from this approach.

Cao Weiran, head of TCL CSOT’s Printed OLED Center, led his team to break this massive technological system down into smaller subsystems. By focusing on core innovations, they collaborated closely with upstream suppliers and research institutions to tackle key challenges. In 2024, they successfully mass-produced and delivered their first printed OLED product—a 21.6-inch 4K medical display—effectively lighting the first spark for China in the uncharted territory of printed OLEDs.

Currently, the world’s first Gen-8.6 printed OLED mass production line, spearheaded by TCL CSOT, is rapidly under construction in the Guangzhou Development District and Huangpu District. This milestone signifies China's first-ever technological leadership in the high-generation AMOLED sector. Once this new line reaches mass production, it will accelerate the localization of upstream and downstream enterprise clusters in Guangdong, creating a comprehensive ecosystem spanning materials, equipment, panels, and terminal applications.

Huangpu's Closed-Loop Display Ecosystem

These continuous technological breakthroughs are fueled by a high-quality industrial ecosystem. As the core hub of Guangzhou’s "World Display Capital," Huangpu has become fertile ground for industrial clustering, forming a complete closed loop for the novel display industry:

Upstream (Materials & Research): Huangpu has gathered world-leading display material enterprises like Nippon Electric Glass (NEG) and Shanjin Optoelectronics, alongside top-tier research platforms such as the National Center for Nanoscience and Technology.

Midstream (Panels & Modules): Manufacturing giants like LG Display, TCL CSOT, and Luxvisions Innovation anchor an immense production capacity. Today, one out of every seven display screens globally originates from Huangpu.

Downstream (Terminal Applications): Brands like H3C and Bosma, coupled with AR/VR and content creation firms such as Even Realities and Goolton, are pushing display technology through the "last mile" to the end user.

Systemic Support: Policy, Funding, and Innovation

Huangpu’s novel display industry boasts not only hardcore corporate strength but also robust systemic backing:

Policy & Funding: Huangpu has rolled out specific measures to support the UHD video and novel display industries, layered on top of its “1+15+5” comprehensive policy framework. The district has also established a 1-billion-yuan UHD Video Industry Investment Fund and a 1.8-billion-yuan Sci-Tech Industry Integration Investment Fund to offer full-lifecycle financial support.

National Innovation Platforms: Huangpu has successfully secured two prestigious national-level centers in the display sector:

National Innovation Center of Printed and Flexible Displays: Guangdong’s first approved national manufacturing innovation center. It has completed the construction of its flexible printed display G4.5 platform, integrating the entire printed OLED technology chain.

National Center of Technology Innovation for Display: China’s sole national-level technological innovation center in the novel display field, dedicated to tackling bottleneck issues in crucial materials and core equipment.
