Celebrating Chinese New Year in Guangzhou means admiring flowers in the “Flower City.” Visiting flower markets and purchasing New Year flowers is a deeply ingrained Chinese New Year tradition for Guangzhou residents. As one of the 11 branch markets of the Guangzhou Spring Festival Flower Market, the 2026 Huangpu District Spring Festival Flower Market and the 7th Greater Bay Area Famous and Premium Products Flower Market Joint Exhibition officially opened on February 12. The event, themed “Galloping Huangpu, Spring Fills the Bay Area,” will run through February 16, lasting five days.

This year’s Huangpu Flower Market adopts the “3+N” model, launching simultaneously in the Maritime Silk Road City, Science City and Knowledge City areas, with each subdistrict and town setting up multiple flower sales points. The Forestry and Landscaping Bureau of Guangzhou Development District has upgraded the “Flower Market in the Park” concept, integrating the traditional flower market with park landscapes. Intangible cultural heritage activities, festive performances and Chinese New Year concerts are staged in succession, filling the area with a vibrant Chinese New Year atmosphere.
