A Taste of the New Year Close to Home! Huangpu District Hosts the 2026 “Our Festival · Spring Festival” Themed Event

Updated : 2026-02-14

The Spring Festival is drawing nearer, and the festive atmosphere is growing stronger. On the afternoon of February 9, the New Era Civilization Practice Center in Luogang Subdistrict, Huangpu District, Guangzhou was decorated with lanterns as a Spring Festival event filled with traditional cultural charm got underway. Lion dances, Cantonese opera, calligraphy, and intangible cultural heritage activities brought residents a strong holiday atmosphere and a warm sense of neighborhood togetherness—close to home.

The event featured a variety of performances, including rock music, folk arts, and dance, as well as a special Sichuan Opera face-changing segment. The performer came down from the stage and moved into the audience, changing faces in an instant during a handshake. Children screamed with excitement and gathered around to experience the magic of this traditional art up close. Meanwhile, “Big Bay Chicken” also made an appearance, interacting with the audience and posing for photos, bringing the atmosphere to a peak.

In addition to the performances, the event invited four calligraphers to demonstrate their craft on site and present the character “Fu” (blessing) along with New Year gifts to representatives of the “Good People Around Us.” Residents crowded around the calligraphy booth, lining up to receive Spring Festival couplets and “Fu” characters written by the calligraphers. With each stroke, bold brushwork appeared on bright red paper; the couplets flowed with traditional flair, and every character carried the charm of heritage. Many residents arrived early to queue, and the ground at the venue was covered with freshly written “Fu” characters left to air-dry as people admired them. Ms. Li held up the “Fu” character she had just received and said with a smile, “A handwritten ‘Fu’ feels more like the New Year than a store-bought one. This year, I’m going to put this blessing on my front door!” (Reporter: Xuying Zhi; Photographer: Weibao Ye)
