Recently, a book launch event was held at the Huangpu District Media Center in Guangzhou for the newly released book Pearl of the Bay: The Code to Branding (hereinafter referred to as “the book”). Aimed at the general public, the industrial community, and potential investors, the book presents a multi-dimensional overview of Guangzhou Development District’s world-class innovation ecosystem, robust industrial strength, and a business environment described as “closest to success,” vividly interpreting the appeal, strength, and potential of the “Pearl of the Bay.”
The book is organized into ten chapters and features brand stories from more than 40 outstanding enterprises within the district. Covering nine major industrial sectors, including automobile manufacturing, it reflects the industrial development of Guangzhou Development District through the growth journeys of these enterprises.
Huangpu District and Guangzhou Development District are China’s first national innovation demonstration zone under the theme that “small and medium-sized enterprises can accomplish great things.” In the district, more than 80 percent of industrial enterprises above designated size are SMEs, over 80 percent of high-tech enterprises are SMEs, and more than 80 percent of invention patents, innovation achievements, and new products originate from SMEs. By the end of 2025, the district had cultivated 38 national-level key “little giant” enterprises and 209 national-level specialized, refined, distinctive, and innovative “little giant” enterprises. The combined revenue of these enterprises has exceeded 70 billion yuan.
Mei Shenghong, a member of the Standing Committee of the Huangpu District Committee and head of its Publicity Department, stated that the compilation and publication of the book represent not only a showcase of achievements, but also a conveyance of confidence. He expressed hope that the book would help the public gain a more comprehensive understanding of the unique appeal and development potential of Guangzhou Development District, enable the industrial community to better perceive its innovation vitality and cooperation opportunities, and encourage potential investors to choose this promising area with greater confidence.
Zheng Yongnian, the author of the book’s preface, wrote in his foreword, “This book is not only a casebook on the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises, but also a testament to the steadfast exploration and practice of a national-level economic and technological development zone on the path of innovation-driven development.”
According to the organizers, the book was spearheaded by the Publicity Department of the Huangpu District Committee, compiled by Huangpu Culture (Guangzhou) Development Group Co., Ltd. and Huangpu Media Convergence (Guangzhou) Co., Ltd., and published by Guangdong People's Publishing House.
