20,000 Runners Take Part in the 2025 Huangpu Marathon

Updated : 2025-12-29

On December 28, with the starting gun fired by Chinese Academy of Engineering Academician Ma Kangsen and other officiating guests, 20,000 runners took off, marking the start of the 2025 Huangpu Marathon.

After intense competition, Ma Meng and Wen Qin won the men’s and women’s marathon championships with times of 2:23:25 and 2:57:55, respectively. Wang Peilin and Zhao Na claimed the men’s and women’s half-marathon titles with finishing times of 1:07:43 and 1:15:33, respectively.

According to the organizers, since its inaugural race in 2017, the Huangpu Marathon has consistently raised its event standards. This year, it received the China Athletics Association’s highest-level A-class event certification. With high-standard organization and distinctive appeal, the race has rapidly grown into one of the most influential road-running events in South China.

Ma Meng said this was his first time participating in the Huangpu Marathon. “The weather in Huangpu at this time of year is very suitable for marathon events,” he said. “After the race, I will take the opportunity to explore Huangpu. The Whampoa Military Academy is well known, and I definitely want to visit it.”

It is worth noting that, to minimize the impact of the event on local residents’ travel, the Huangpu Public Security Bureau introduced “pedestrian safety islands” along the race route for the first time. A new “island-style crossing” model was adopted, enabling flexible and dynamic traffic control based on the race schedule.

Qiu Lingfeng, Deputy Director of the Huangpu District Cultural Industry Development Office and Deputy Head of the Publicity Department of the Huangpu District Committee, said that today’s Huangpu Marathon course not only showcases the city’s scenery, but also serves as a “growth axis” for the cultural industry. On December 28, with the starting gun fired by Chinese Academy of Engineering Academician Ma Kangsen and other officiating guests, 20,000 runners took off, marking the start of the 2025 Huangpu Marathon.
