The book integrates Singapore’s experience in developing an advanced research ecosystem and the innovative resources of universities with the Greater Bay Area’s industrial upgrading needs. Its publication represents another tangible achievement in the deep collaboration between China and Singapore in the fields of education and technology.
Since its inauguration in the Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City on March 28, 2024, the NUS Guangzhou Research Translation and Innovation Institute has made significant strides, serving as a vital bridge for scientific and technological collaboration between China and Singapore. The institute has further promoted the international commercialization of scientific and technological achievements.
In scientific research, the institute has established three major research platforms—Intelligent Systems, Artificial Intelligence, and Smart Healthcare—led by academic leaders from NUS, including seven academicians (fellows of national academies) and eight globally highly cited researchers.
In terms of talent cultivation, the institute focuses on key industrial areas prioritized by the city and district. It selects outstanding talents with a global perspective, has signed scholarship agreements with multiple doctoral and master’s students, and has been approved to establish a branch of the national postdoctoral research workstation, dedicated to frontier research and industrial applications.
In innovation ecosystem development, the institute has attracted 21 high-potential startups in fields such as smart healthcare, artificial intelligence, and smart logistics, and signed strategic cooperation agreements with 15 leading industry enterprises, fostering deeper integration of industry, academia, and research.
Going forward, the China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City will continue to further deepen cooperation between China and Singapore in scientific research, talent exchange, and industrial collaboration. It aims to accelerate the industrialization of scientific achievements and jointly build a future-oriented international innovation ecosystem.
