On August 20, a joint preliminary inspection team composed of Huangpu Customs, the Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission, and five other departments conducted a preliminary review of the China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City Comprehensive Bonded Zone. This milestone marks pivotal progress in the construction of this major opening-up platform, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent formal acceptance and official customs-supervised operations.
During the review, the inspection team conducted on-site assessments of key infrastructure and regulatory facilities, including perimeter fencing, checkpoints, inspection venues, and monitoring systems, as well as related supporting facilities. Following a comprehensive evaluation meeting, the team unanimously concluded that the Guangzhou Knowledge City Comprehensive Bonded Zone's infrastructure and regulatory facilities meet acceptance standards and granted preliminary approval.
The Guangzhou Knowledge City Comprehensive Bonded Zone was approved by the State Council on October 30, 2023, with a planned area of 0.82 square kilometers. Leveraging its advantages in technological innovation and industrial clustering, the bonded zone will focus on building a global bonded research and development service center and a global testing and maintenance service center. It will capitalize on its strengths as an industry-supported comprehensive bonded zone to help the China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City develop an open economy at higher levels and standards, better serving the Belt and Road Initiative and the high-quality development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The successful preliminary review marks a significant milestone in the bonded zone's construction. Moving forward, the Guangzhou Knowledge City Comprehensive Bonded Zone will focus on implementing the recommendations from the preliminary inspection team, enhance and improve related facilities to high standards, strengthen coordinated investment attraction efforts, and actively prepare for the formal inspection by the General Administration of Customs and six other ministries.
