JD.com Bets on New Robotics Track as Global First RoboBase Lands in Guangzhou's Huangpu District

On July 11, the People’s Government of Guangdong Province and JD.com held a ceremony in Guangzhou’s Huangpu District to sign a strategic cooperation agreement and commence construction of the JD Property RoboBase project.
At the ceremony, the People’s Government of Guangdong Province and JD.com signed a comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement. The two sides will focus on nine key areas, including consumption development, modern logistics, the digital economy, smart healthcare, housekeeping services, supply chain development, modern agriculture, government-enterprise cooperation, and regional headquarters development, with the aim of establishing a comprehensive strategic partnership.
As the first physical landmark project implemented under the agreement, the JD Property RoboBase project officially commenced construction on the same day in Guangzhou Science City, Huangpu District. It is JD.com’s first RoboBase project launched worldwide in the robotics sector. The project is expected to be fully completed by the end of 2028 and become operational in 2029, with an estimated annual output value of approximately RMB 1.75 billion upon reaching full capacity.
According to reports, JD.com has designated robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) as key strategic directions for the next five years. The JD Property RoboBase project represents a core initiative in its advanced manufacturing and robotics strategy. With the goal of integrating "R&D, manufacturing, application, and services," the project aims to build a complete closed-loop ecosystem for the robotics industry.
Located in the core area of Guangzhou Science City, Huangpu District, the industrial park has a total floor area of approximately 190,000 square meters. Driven by JD.com’s robotics industry ecosystem and guided by the industrial-scale implementation of application scenarios, the project will develop a green ecological park, R&D centers, standalone headquarters buildings, and other diverse facilities. It will provide functions covering R&D and design, manufacturing, pilot-scale commercialization of research outcomes, corporate headquarters, product exhibitions, and supporting production services.
According to the briefing, the project focuses on three major objectives:
Pooling Strength: Leveraging the combined momentum of the government and the enterprise while strengthening collaboration with authorities at the provincial, municipal, and district levels;
Strengthening the Chain: Connecting the industrial ecosystem by gathering upstream and downstream partners to integrate key links across R&D, procurement, production, sales, logistics, warehousing, and financing;
Setting the Benchmark: Establishing a leading brand example and reinforcing the project’s benchmark image in JD.com's robotics business layout.
During the groundbreaking ceremony, a signing ceremony for the JD Embodied Intelligence × Service Consumption Industry-Education Integration Program was also held. Ten vocational colleges from Guangdong Province participated in the joint signing to collaborate with JD.com in cultivating highly skilled talent in fields such as embodied intelligence and modern service consumption. The program aims to promote the deep coupling of education, talent, and industrial chains, providing robust talent support for industrial transformation and upgrading.
