Guangzhou-Singapore ties thrive on 35-yr diplomacy of diplomacy

This year marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of Sino-Singaporean diplomatic relations and the 15th anniversary of Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City.

A delegation from Guangzhou traveled to Singapore to hold the "Guangzhou-Singapore Economic and Trade Exchange Conference and the 15th Anniversary Series of Events for Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City".

In 2024, the total trade volume between Guangzhou and Singapore reached 15.5 billion yuan ($2.11 billion). Singapore established 107 new investment enterprises in Guangzhou, representing a 16.3 percent year-on-year growth, with actual foreign investment reaching $210 million, a 1.6-fold increase.

Districts like Huangpu signed contracts for 13 projects with Singaporean companies, amounting to a total investment of 2 billion yuan. DBS Bank launched a technology research and development center in Guangzhou to promote the integration of finance and new business formats.

Regarding exchange and cooperation, the number of tourists from Singapore visiting Guangzhou increased by 95.3 percent in 2024, and the number of tourists from Guangzhou visiting Singapore increased by 1.1 times.

The achievements of the knowledge city platform are becoming increasingly evident. It is the only national-level bilateral cooperation project in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, developed over 15 years with a total investment exceeding 530 billion yuan, establishing a modern industrial system.

Under the guidance of Sino-Singaporean cooperation, the knowledge city has attracted Singaporean companies and innovative resources, transforming technological achievements into tangible assets.

Looking ahead, the knowledge city will continue to explore new areas of cooperation, creating a new chapter of collaboration across borders.
