Recently, Nangang River in Huangpu district was awarded an "Outstanding Case of National Happy River And Lake".
Selected as one of the first such cases nationwide and the only recipient in Guangdong province, the river exemplifies Huangpu's innovative governance approach, highlighted through river chief interviews, exhibitions, and videos.

Spanning 24 kilometers through the central-eastern part of Huangpu district, the Nangang River winds from its pristine upper reaches in an ecological conservation zone, through the bustling middle reaches near Guangzhou Science City, and down to its industrial lower reaches, where it merges with the Dongjiang River. This unique trajectory makes it a quintessential Lingnan urban waterway, blending natural beauty with urban vitality.
Once prone to destructive flash floods, the river basin has undergone a sweeping vitalization, emerging as a green corridor with 10-meter-wide waterways and 100-meter riverbanks.
The basin's transformation has vitalized over 2.5 million square meters of waterfront spaces, now adorned with scenic platforms, reinforced embankments, preserved riverbanks, and the creation of pebble beaches, transforming the area into a livable ecological space for residents.
In the future, Huangpu plans to integrate ecological restoration with economic development, pioneering a "scenic water economy" model. Key projects will focus on major waterways like the Jinkeng River, Fenghuang River, and Pingang River, as well as major lakes such as Fenghuang Lake and Jiulong Lake, advancing the district's vision of a comprehensive sustainable "Happy River and Lake" ecosystem.
