Guangzhou BRT Tianhe section introduces commuter route

The autonomous shuttle bus commuter route in the Tianhe section of the Guangzhou Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system was recently launched.

It is the first autonomous shuttle bus route to enter the central urban area of Guangzhou's BRT system as well as the first BRT autonomous bus route to operate at night in a first-tier city center in China.

As part of the Guangzhou city center BRT system, the BRT Wenyuan-BRT Tangxia village loop further strengthens the Guangzhou BRT network. This loop seamlessly connects with Metro Line 4, and Line 13, and intersects with the already operational BRT Xiayuan-BRT Wenyuan loop, allowing passengers to travel across Huangpu and Tianhe districts on the WeRide shuttle bus.

The BRT Tianhe section commuter route starts from the BRT Wenyuan station, passing through several commercial plazas, communities, and transport hubs. It covers a one-way distance of approximately 9 kilometers, eventually returning to the starting point, with key stops including the BRT Chebei station, BRT Dongpu town station, and BRT Zhucun village station.

During the trial operation period, the route will operate from 9:30 pm to 10:30 pm, with one departure each night, following a bi-directional loop pattern and providing a convenient nighttime commuting experience.

Since the end of 2023, WeRide and Guangzhou Bus Group have deployed 50 autonomous shuttle buses in Guangzhou, introducing 10 commercial autonomous commuter bus routes for the public.
