Huangpu, Dongguan set for direct metro connectivity

Updated : 2024-09-24

Guangzhou Metro recently initiated the environmental impact assessment and held the first information disclosure for the Dongguan Metro Line 1 Phase 2 project, located within Guangzhou's city boundaries and stretching from the Guangzhou-Dongguan Border to Huangpu New Port.

According to the plan, Dongguan Metro Line 1 will begin facilitating transfers with Guangzhou Metro Line 5 at Huangpu New Port Station next year.

In the future, Guangzhou residents will only need to transfer once to reach the bustling Hongfu Road commercial area in Dongguan's city center, while Dongguan residents will have one-transfer access to Guangzhou's Zhujiang New Town. The western terminus of Phase 1, Wanghong Station, will be renamed Dongguan West Station.

Dongguan Metro Line 1 Phase 1 currently spans approximately 58 kilometers, linking Dongguan's central urban area with the Songshan Lake High-Tech Park and forming a cross network with Dongguan Metro Line 2.

Guangzhou Metro Line 5 has reserved provisions for extending eastward to facilitate transfers with Dongguan Metro at Huangpu New Port Station. The future extension of Guangzhou Metro Line 5 to the west will boost Foshan's development, while its eastward extension will aid Dongguan's advancement. The line will traverse the districts of Liwan, Yuexiu, Tianhe, and Huangpu, thereby accelerating the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area's rail network.
