Huangpu advances Maritime Silk Road culture, urban development

On Dec 4, the Maritime Silk Road Culture and Urban Development forum, part of the 2023 Understanding China Conference (Guangzhou), was held with Huangpu Deputy District Chief He Yuhong delivering a keynote speech.

He highlighted that Huangpu is a critical starting point of the Maritime Silk Road. He went on to highlight its rich historical and cultural heritage, exemplified by landmarks like the South Sea God Temple and the Huangpu Military Academy. He emphasized that Huangpu's maritime cultural legacy is becoming a new driving force for urban development.

In 2022, Huangpu achieved remarkable economic success, including a regional GDP that exceeded 431.38 billion yuan ($67.89 billion) and an industrial output of nearly 887.38 billion yuan from larger enterprises. Moreover, projects like China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City and Guangzhou Science City continue to gain influence as innovation hubs for biomedicine research and development.

He stated that Huangpu would continue to deepen the integration of its culture and economic sectors, thus enhancing the city's cultural depth and international influence.
