Updated : 2023-11-28

The main structures of the resettlement houses in the Liucun and Gegang areas of Yunpu sub-district, located in Guangzhou's Huangpu district, were recently capped. This marks significant progress in the renovation of old villages initiative.

Located in the Yunpu area of Guangzhou Science City, the project spans 24.83 hectares and has a total floorage of about 910,000 square meters. It is dedicated to creating a vibrant ecological area that integrates modern living, education, leisure, and cultural creativity.

Key components of the project include an ancient tree culture park, a school that facilitates elementary and junior high students, a kindergarten, and other educational and cultural facilities. It will also feature health service stations and cultural service centers. Moreover, the project will build high-standard commercial areas to promote economic transformation and upgrading.

The seven rebuilt resettlement buildings that were topped off in this phase of the project are expected to provide 1,171 housing units, ranging from 92 to 189 sq m. They will accommodate about 2,000 resettled villagers.

The project is scheduled for completion and delivery by the end of 2024, with the current demolition rate reaching 96 percent and the construction rate reaching 55 percent.

This year, Huangpu has approved 11 urban village renovation projects, accounting for over 80 percent of the city's total. With a construction area of 3.89 million sq m, the district has completed approximately 15,300 new resettlement housing units.

The district will accelerate its renovation pace, as this will drive Guangzhou towards enhanced revitalization.
