Wuchong River named among Guangdong's most beautiful water bodies

Updated : 2023-11-24

The Wuchong River in Guangzhou's Huangpu district was recently honored as one of the "Top 10 Beautiful Rivers and Lakes in Guangdong Province".

Resident, Chen Meixin, has witnessed the remarkable transformation of the river, referring to it as a "beautiful homeland."

Originating from the Shuikou Reservoir in Huangpu, the Wuchong River spans over 22 kilometers. In the past, the river suffered from poor water quality due to the impact of domestic sewage and industrial pollution.

In 2017, Huangpu began implementing a comprehensive river and lake management system that adopts a series of measures such as water pollution control, sewage interception, and wetland restoration. These efforts significantly improved the river's environment.

Today, Huangbei Wetland Park, which is situated along the Wuchong River, has become a popular spot for citizens to relax. The clear waters, lush greenery, and excellent ecological environment attract many people who wish to take a stroll, have a picnic, and fish.

Chen states that the river's management has not only beautified the environment but also enhanced the quality of life for residents.

The conservation of the Wuchong River has also received strong support from community volunteers. Since its establishment in 2019, the Wuchong Volunteer Service Team has attracted the participation of over 2, 000 volunteers.

Through joint efforts by the residents, volunteers, and the government, the Wuyong River has transformed into an eco-friendly leisure destination.
