Huangpu athletes shine bright at Hangzhou Asian Games

As the curtains fell on the Hangzhou Asian Games, China's sports delegation triumphed with a haul of 201 gold, 111 silver, and 71 bronze medals, topping both the gold and overall medal charts. Among these victories, two athletes from Huangpu district stood out for their remarkable achievements.

Liang Meiyu, a member of the women's field hockey team, won gold at the event, marking the country's first win in this category since the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games. This victory secured China's spot in the upcoming Paris Olympics. 

As a prolific athlete, Liang has competed in three consecutive Olympic Games. Her recent gold in Hangzhou seems like a fitting capstone to her illustrious career. Looking forward, Liang is poised to take on a coaching role for Guangdong's women's field hockey team, aiming to impart her knowledge and determination to the next generation of champions.

Huang Zhuoqin, affectionately known as the "Equestrian Prince of the South", is another renowned athlete from Huangpu. At 45, he was the eldest member of Guangdong's athletic delegation at this year's event. At this year's Asian Games, Huang, alongside his teammates, clinched the silver medal in the team dressage event.

Both athletes have showcased exemplary performances on the Asian Games stage, earning accolades for both the nation and their hometown.
