$1.55 million AI prize launched in Huangpu

In a global call to attract artificial intelligence or AI talent, the Huangpu district of Guangzhou - capital of South China's Guangdong province - has announced the second Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Huangpu) International Algorithm Contest.

The competition is offering a prize pool of 10 million yuan ($1.55 million).

Spearheaded by the Pazhou Laboratory, the competition is open to students, enterprises and researchers engaged in the field of AI. It aims to foster the data and AI ecosystems within the Greater Bay Area, fuel innovative initiatives in the digital economy and attract top international algorithmic talent.

The winners will be able to interview industry leaders and gain opportunities to join leading AI companies, as well as benefit from policies that support innovation and entrepreneurship. Moreover, they will get the chance to secure seed funding, to transform their ideas into reality.

The registration window for the contest is open from July 15 to Sept 20. Preliminary evaluations are scheduled from Sept 21 to Oct 6.

The organizers say it's a golden opportunity for AI talent to contribute to the digital technology innovation and development of the Greater Bay Area.
