Huangpu's Nangang River completes ecological transformation

Updated : 2023-06-14

The Nangang River, which flows through Huangpu district, has become a treasure in the hearts of the public due to its rich ecological resources and its origins in the countryside.

As the only river in Guangdong province to be included in the Ministry of Water Resources' Happy River and Lake Construction Project in 2022, the Nangang River has been completely transformed after more than a year of construction.

Huangpu adheres to the principle of ecological priority, and so it strictly controls its river channel and shoreline and retains its natural landscape. According to statistics, the mainstream of the Nangang River covers an area of about 490,000 square meters, with vegetation covering more than 1.08 million sq m. This makes it a green corridor in Guangzhou.

With the promotion of the Happy River and Lake Construction project, the facilities on both sides of the Nangang River have been further improved. An additional 34 kilometers of greenway have been added, along with interconnected stations and waterside platforms. The space under the river's bridges has also been utilized, and places for public activities and public facilities have been built.

The ecological construction of the Nangang River has created a "mountain-to-sea" riverside park that is connected with the city's transportation network, thus providing citizens with a more ecological living environment.
