CSGKC to deepen China-Singapore cooperation

A seminar to promote the opening-up process and to develop a new pattern of cooperation between China and Singapore was recently held at the China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City (CSGKC). The participants discussed opening-up, scientific and technological innovations, the digital economy, and urban construction.

Peng Sen, president of the China Society of Economic Reform, pointed out that the CSGKC is a national-level platform undertaking the mission of reform and opening up. Peng further states that the CSGKC has a good foundation for industrial agglomeration and the development and protection of intellectual property rights. It aims to comprehensively improve data elements, and explore the digital economy, and digital city, as well as the cross-border use of data.

Qu Weixi, vice president of the Beijing-based Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation said that the CSGKC should focus on developing the digital economy, utilizing digital economic resources, and providing better services for its development.

Qu also suggested that the CSGKC should actively participate in the governance of the global digital economy, accelerate the construction of new digital infrastructure, enlarge the openness of the digital economy, and create a first-class business environment for the digital economy.

In August 2020, the State Council approved the Overall Development Plan for the China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City (2020-2035). Expectations for the CSGKC are to become a national knowledge center with international influence. It will also help the development of the Belt and Road Initiative, as well as help to further develop the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Since the approval of the construction plan, the CSGKC has accelerated the construction of a new knowledge hub.

In the future, Huangpu district will accelerate the promotion of open innovation.
