Huangpu harbors growing number of leading enterprises

More than 40,000 private small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have gathered in Huangpu. Of the enterprises in the district that are above designated size and high-tech enterprises, more than 80 percent are SMEs, as are the majority of authorized invention patents holders and technological innovation achievers.

In 2021, there were 963 SMEs above designated size in Huangpu, accounting for 85 percent of the total number of industrial enterprises (1,127) in the district, and the total industrial output value in 2021 reached 305.5 billion yuan ($43.8 billion), a year-on-year increase of 13.8 percent from that in 2019.

To date, there are 138 provincial-level outstanding new enterprises, accounting for 33.7 percent of Guangzhou's total, and there are 61 State-level outstanding "little giant" enterprises, accounting for about half of Guangzhou's total. This year, 29 new companies set up shop in the district, accounting for 52.7 percent of Guangzhou's total.

A total of 18 enterprises have become national "single champion" enterprises, accounting for 75 percent of Guangzhou's total, and six new companies have been added to the list this year, accounting for 75 percent of Guangzhou's total.

Among the top 10 outstanding enterprises in Guangzhou in terms of effective inventions in 2021, seven were in Huangpu, and they held a combined total of 5,348 invention patents, accounting for 48.3 percent of the patents among Guangzhou's outstanding enterprises, putting the district in the first place.

The number of high-tech enterprises in the district has increased from more than 200 in 2015 to over 2,200 this year, which is more than triple, and it ranks first among national economic development zones.
