Construction of Guangzhou Biosafety Innovation Port to be completed next year

Updated : 2022-09-22

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Biosafety Innovation Port is intended to give a strong boost to the biomedical industry in Huangpu district. Its construction began in August 2021 and is scheduled to be completed by the end of June 2023.

To date, the overall construction level of the project has reached 65 percent, and three of the total five standard workshops have been capped.

The research, development and production of biomedicine have high requirements for industrial plants, such as higher story heights, heavier loads, and larger single-story construction areas.

The first phase of the project covers an area of 36,313 square meters, and the height of the workshop is up to 7 meters, enabling loading of more large-scale process equipment. The maximum floor load reaches 12 kilonewtons per sq m, which is about 2.5 times that of ordinary workshops. It can easily support the large-scale reaction tanks needed in biomedicine.

The project has standard workshops, R&D and incubation buildings, talent apartments, commercial buildings, and class-A hazardous chemical warehouses, which can meet the needs of enterprises in the whole process from research and development to commercial production.

After completion, the port will introduce more biosafety high-tech enterprises to Huangpu, as well as build a professional bio-industry development innovation carrier and a base for the transformation of scientific and technological achievements. It will also help Guangzhou become an international scientific and technological innovation hub to realize industrial upgrading and transformation.
