​Guangzhou COVID-19 Update for September 16

On September 16, 2022, Guangzhou reported 1 local asymptomatic case who travelled from another province. Guangzhou also reported 6 imported confirmed cases and 3 imported asymptomatic cases, while 2 previously reported imported asymptomatic cases have been diagnosed as confirmed COVID-19 cases.

As of 24:00 September 16, 2022, a total of 6,995 positive cases have been reported in the city. These include 3,471 confirmed cases (2,425 imported cases and 1,046 local cases), among which, 119 cases are still being treated in hospital; and 3,524 asymptomatic cases (3,258 imported cases and 266 local cases), among which, 57 cases are still under medical observation.

Details of the Local Asymptomatic Case Who Travelled from Another Province

The local asymptomatic case is a 19-year-old woman who travelled to Guangzhou from another province by train Z136 on September 13. She arrived at Guangzhou Railway Station on September 15 and took a PCR test at the station upon getting off the train. She then travelled to Xiaoguwei Subdistrict in Panyu District on a car hired through an online ride-sharing app. Her test result came back positive in the morning of September 16. She was then transferred to Guangzhou No.8 People's Hospital for isolation and treatment. As of now, close contacts have been quarantined and possible key sites have been cordoned off.

Details of the 6 Imported Confirmed Cases and 3 Imported Asymptomatic Cases

Among the 6 imported confirmed cases, 4 travelled from India, Nigeria, Ghana and Bangladesh respectively, 2 travelled from UAE; the 3 imported asymptomatic cases travelled from Turkey, Nigeria and Singapore respectively.

Upon their arrival in Guangzhou, all the imported confirmed and asymptomatic cases were transferred to hotels for centralized quarantine. They tested positive for COVID-19 during quarantine and were transferred to Guangzhou No.8 People's Hospital for isolation and treatment.

Reminder from Guangzhou CDC 

If you are visiting or returning to Guangzhou from the following places and if your Suikang code is red or yellow, you need to voluntarily report to the community (village), employer, or hotel. Alternatively, you can declare your travel history and health information via the Suikang MiniProgram and undergo health administration procedure as required by the community.
