Huangpu hosts academic conference on cosmetics industry

An academic conference focusing on the evaluation and scientific supervision of the cosmetics industry was recently held in Huangpu district, Guangzhou.

Professors from colleges and universities, as well as experts from scientific research institutions, attended the conference, which drew over 30,000 views during its simultaneous live stream.

This conference discussed the research highlights and future directions in the field of cosmetics, as well as further promoting the scientific, legal, international, and modernized processes of the country's regulations on the industry.

In 2021, the market size of China's cosmetics industry reached 455.3 billion yuan ($65.66 billion), a year-on-year increase of 15 percent. It is estimated that the market size will exceed 500 billion yuan in 2023.

The conference invited well-known experts and scholars in the field of cosmetics at home and abroad to make special reports.

The reports covered: the development of the cosmetics industry; interpretations of related policies, regulations, and standards; safety and efficacy evaluations; dermatology and cosmetics; dermatology and health; inspection and testing technology; as well as innovation and development of traditional Chinese medicine related cosmetics.

At present, the scale of the cosmetics industry in Huangpu district has exceeded 80 billion yuan, accounting for more than half of Guangzhou's and a quarter of Guangdong's totals.

In the future, Huangpu will continue to vigorously develop its cosmetics industry. It will strive to cultivate two to three leading cosmetic companies with an annual operating income of more than 10 billion yuan by 2024, as well as one to three local enterprises with annual revenue of more than 5 billion yuan.
