Huangpu intelligent connected traffic system cuts traffic time

The first Baidu Apollo Intelligent Connected Vehicle Open Day was held at Apollo Park in Huangpu recently. Many intelligent connected traffic light service experience officers from Guangzhou Science City and China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City (CSGKC) participated and shared their experiences.

In March, Baidu Apollo launched a recruitment campaign for people to experience intelligent connected vehicle applications in Huangpu district. People only need to install smart rearview mirrors in their cars and then they can enjoy traffic light countdown, green light start reminder, red light warning, suggested lane, and other intelligent network traffic light services.

In August 2020, Huangpu district and Baidu Apollo signed a cooperation agreement on the "new infrastructure" project regarding smart transportation for autonomous driving and vehicle road coordination. On this basis, Huangpu and Baidu Apollo have built a digital base for vehicle-road coordination, upgrading and transforming traditional roads into digital roads.

This digital base is linked to the vehicles and sends rich traffic information to the vehicles in real-time to help decision-making and auxiliary judgments for autonomous driving, as well as to help the government's digital supervision.

In terms of traffic management, the traffic efficiency is increased by an average of 20 percent by extracting traffic flow data at the base, optimizing the signal light control plan, as well as creating green wave traffic, which coordinates and controls signal lights to ensure traffic efficiency, on multiple roads like Kaichuang Avenue and Kaitai Avenue.

Violations of vehicles on the road and garbage disposal can be detected in real-time, with the urban management department able to be notified in time to ensure the cleanliness of the roads in the area through the video monitoring of intersections and construction site entrances.
