Huangpu invests $68m to build public cultural service system

Huangpu district has invested 460 million yuan ($68 million) in the past three years to build a high-quality public cultural service system.

It is striving to create a new type of public cultural space and build a "10-minute cultural activity circle" in Guangzhou. A total of 104 libraries and cultural centers have been built in the district, while social forces are encouraged to participate in the construction of public cultural undertakings, with a total of more than 70 million yuan in social funds providing support.

At the same time, Huangpu has carried out a variety of public cultural service activities. A total of 564 public cultural activities have been carried out this year, attracting over 419,900 participants. Among them, the libraries carried out 496 reading promotion activities, reaching a total of 154,900 people, while the cultural centers organized 68 art promotion activities, attracting 265,000 participants.

A museum system with Guangzhou characteristics has also been built in Huangpu. The Guangzhou Maritime Museum was built to fill the gap of Guangzhou's special museum on the Maritime Silk Road. Huangpu has held cultural exhibitions to showcase Guangzhou's brilliant achievements in the history of the Maritime Silk Road and to reproduce the historical features of the "Millennium Commercial Capital."

The district has also focused on high-quality cultural creation by utilizing its historical and cultural resources. It co-created the dance drama By Then with China Opera and Dance Theatre, which was listed as a key work of the theme creation of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee.
