The Luogang Guiwei lychee variety.
The 2022 Huangpu Lychee Culture Festival was held in Huangpu district on June 28.
A video showcased the history of lychee cultivation in Huangpu at the event. Hand-painted maps of Huangpu's lychee trees were also displayed, with visitors even able to follow a virtual reality map to take an online tour of Huangpu's wide range of lychee plantations.
A lychee science popularization gallery exhibition area, an agricultural product exhibition area, as well as an intangible cultural heritage technology show exhibition area were set up to provide visitors more information about lychees and other agricultural products in Huangpu.
The festival also included an activity in which people on site were invited to taste different varieties of lychee and choose which one they liked best. The three varieties of New Longdijinfeng, Bicun Nuomici, and Luogang Guiwei were selected as the people's favorites.
Huangpu is one of the major lychee production bases in Guangdong province, which has a profound lychee culture, as well as thousands of years of history in planting and growing the trees. The district has many lychee trees of more than 300 years old. The estimated output of lychees this year in Huangpu is about 3,000 metric tons.
