The 14th China Bioindustry Convention, an event focusing on the bio-industry in the country, was held in Guangzhou from June 10 to 12.

According to the press conference, the 2022 Bioindustry Convention will be composed of an opening ceremony, a high-level forum, 12 professional forums, project roadshows, industry-financed docking, achievements exhibition, and science communication.

The convention features Nobel laureates, and other professionals in academic, industrial, and scientific research fields, to discuss such issues as public, human health, and bio-economy, as well as the latest developments in nationwide and global bio-industry.

During the convention, a high-level forum and several thematic forums will be held. At the high-level forum, Zhong Nanshan, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, will discuss hot issues and development trends in global public health and human health. Barry J. Marshall, Nobel Prize Laureate in Physiology or Medicine, will introduce global biotechnology development trends. Jay D. Keasling, a member of the US National Academy of Engineering, will give a report on genetic engineering.

Notably, the convention will also release the China Biomedical Industry Barometer (CBIB) 2.0, which proposes a national index and regional evaluation index system to form a "trend line" to guide the high-quality development of the Chinese biomedical industry.

With the innovative achievements of the Guangzhou biomedical industry on display, this convention will add professional exhibition areas for public service platforms for the first time. The public service platforms include Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Contract Research Organization (CRO), Contract Manufacture Organization (CMO), and Contract Development and Manufacture Organization (CDMO) enterprises.

The biomedicine industry is one of the most innovative emerging industries in the world, and Guangzhou is taking the lead in building a world-class biomedicine industry cluster.

In recent years, Guangzhou's biomedical industry has maintained an average annual growth rate of about 10 percent. The number of biomedical enterprises has increased from around 3,800 to more than 6,400, ranking third in China.

In the coming year, Guangzhou will strive to see the biomedical and high-end medical equipment industry scale exceed 600 billion RMB. In the first quarter of 2022, the added value of the biomedicine and health industry reached 38.478 billion RMB, up by 8.9 percent. Among them, pharmaceutical manufacturing grew by 37.7 percent year on year, and medical equipment and instrument manufacturing increased by 13 percent on a year-on-year basis.
