Huangpu to build biopharmaceutical import base

Huangpu district recently hosted a meeting about the Guangzhou biopharmaceutical industry chain at Guangzhou International Bio Island. About 20 government and 20 enterprise representatives attended the meeting to discuss how to build the biopharmaceutical import base in Huangpu.

Recently, Huangpu has issued measures to support enterprises to choose more harbors for transportation, as well as to create green channels for Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport and Guangzhou Port to ensure the stability of the production chain and supply chain of strategic emerging industries.

The measures also encourage Huangpu to build inspection sites for special goods, such as biological products, to ensure fast customs clearance.

The volume of the medicine import filing business in Guangzhou has increased by more than 20 percent year-on-year. At present, the Guangzhou municipal administration for market regulation is exploring ways to simplify procedures to provide better services for enterprises.

As the core area of Guangzhou's biomedical industry, Huangpu is home to more than 3,000 biomedical enterprises, with their annual output value accounting for more than 60 percent of Guangzhou's total. In 2021, it generated over 150 billion yuan ($22.44 billion) in revenue, ranking among the forefront in the development of the national biopharmaceutical industry.
