Guangzhou's Huangpu district ranked fifth on a list of the top 100 domestic districts in terms of innovation this year recently released by CCID Consulting's Urban Economic Research Center, local media outlets reported on April 19.

The list assessed the districts in terms of four first-level indexes on innovation, namely overall ecology, impetus, entities, and outcomes, as well as 16 second-level indexes, such as regional GDP, R&D investment intensity, and number of national hi-tech companies.

Huangpu's GDP exceeded 4 trillion yuan ($63 billion) in 2021, with a year-on-year growth of over 8 percent, and its output value of industries above designated size reached 877.1 billion yuan.

Its fixed asset investment increased by 13.1 percent to 186.9 billion yuan and its R&D investment intensity exceeded 5.7 percent last year, which met the global leading level.

Huangpu has formulated a strategic sci-tech innovation platform cluster led by Guangzhou Laboratory and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area National Technological Innovation Center. In addition, a series of preferential policies have been released to attract more talents to Huangpu.

Three 100-billion-yuan level industrial clusters on automobiles, electronics, and energy have taken shape in Huangpu along with four 50-billion-yuan level ones on biological medicine, high-end chemical industry, food and beverage, as well as electrical machinery.
