Huangpu invests greatly to support local agriculture

Updated : 2022-03-30

Guangzhou's Huangpu district has been devoting continuous efforts to encouraging farmers to grow crops, boosting food production, and increasing farmers' incomes, officials from Huangpu finance bureau announced on March 28.

A series of 10 preferential policies have been released and more financial support will go to local farmers. Farmers purchasing commercial organic fertilizers can receive a subsidy of 400 yuan ($63) for each metric ton of fertilizer.

Huangpu has allocated more funds for high-quality farmland construction, awarding 4,000 yuan for 1 mu (0.07 hectare). It will support Jingxia village in becoming a demonstration area for high-quality farmland construction, with 132 hectares of paddy fields under renovation.

A total subsidy of 2.72 million yuan from the central government will be applied in protecting 30,800 mu in farmland in the district.

In the past three years, Huangpu has devoted 90 million yuan to supporting three agricultural research institutes, such as the Longping Agricultural Technology Huangpu Research Institute, to carry out projects like high-yield fields and low-cadmium rice.

The Huangpu model of smart farms is underway for establishment, which allows for unmanned farm work.
