Huangpu launches sequential immunization against COVID-19

Updated : 2022-02-25

Guangzhou's Huangpu district has launched sequential immunization in an effort to improve protection against COVID-19.

People who are older than 18 years old and are fully vaccinated with one of three inactivated vaccines developed by the State-owned Sinopharm or Sinovac Biotech can now choose to receive a different shot from their original inoculation as a booster.

Sequential immunization is an additional tool to reinforce herd immunity and make the immunity barrier sturdier. It is able to combine the advantages of different vaccines, while preventing people at risk of experiencing side effects with one particular kind of vaccine from going through them again.

In addition, a large number of experiments conducted in China, the US, and European countries showed that the incidence rate of adverse reactions is the same or lower compared with using the initial inoculation.

There are now 382 vaccination sites in Guangzhou, of which 30 are in Huangpu. Residents can make online reservations on the WeChat applet "广州健康通" or "穗康".
