GDD celebrates its 37th anniversary with substantial achievements

Guangzhou Development District (GDD), which has grown from a barren ground into a core engine for the high-quality development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, celebrated its 37th anniversary on Dec 28,

With a start-up fund of merely 20,000 yuan ($3,140), GDD has become the first national economic and technological development zone to realize a fiscal and tax revenue of more than 100 billion yuan.

The district ranked second among the top national economic and technological development zones in 2020, and it is the fifth consecutive year that it ranks among the top three. Local business environment index has ranked first among national economic and technological development zones for two consecutive years.

Moreover, GDD was also among the top in the country in terms of scientific and technological innovation, intellectual property exertion and protection, as well as the number of listed enterprises.

The district, which covers 6.5 percent of Guangzhou's area, accounted for 40 percent of the city's industrial output value, 15 percent of the city's GDP and 17 percent of the city's tax revenue. It is hailed by entrepreneurs as the closest place to success.
