Guangzhou spares no effort in livelihood improvement

Updated : 2021-12-16

Guangzhou's Huangpu district has spared no effort to improve people's quality of life over the past year.

Five public secondary and primary schools providing education to an additional 11,000 students and eight kindergartens enrolling an additional 2,700 preschoolers have opened in the district this year.

In addition, the Huangpu Campus of the Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center has begun operating in the China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City, and renovation work on the Huangpu Women's & Children's Hospital has been completed.

To boost local employment, Huangpu has organized 20 onsite and online job fairs for university students, allocated 335 million yuan ($53 million) to subsidize vocational training sessions, and help 3,679 people start their own businesses.

In terms of the environment, the district has completed construction on a 5.5-kilometer cycling greenway along the Guangzhou-Shantou Highway, Qilin Mountain Park and three "pocket-sized" parks (small open landscaped spaces such as street gardens and community sports venues).

On the cultural front, the Guangzhou Maritime Museum opened its door on July 1 to showcase the history and culture of Guangzhou's maritime trade and exchanges with foreign countries. Nine cultural halls and library branches were built this year.
