GDD pilots applicability of intl sustainable development standards

Updated : 2021-12-09

Guangzhou Development District (GDD) has received approval from Chinese and British experts for its international standards for sustainable development pilot.

Sustainable development is a shared vision by all mankind, and the Chinese National Development and Reform Commission and British Department for International Trade have launched a project to test the applicability of international sustainable development standards in small and medium-sized cities.

GDD was selected as one of the first four pilot areas in the world in July 2020. It was assigned to test the applicability of international sustainable development standards in China, which laid the foundation for improving the overall standards.

The district has so far attended six online seminars to discuss the achievements and feedbacks of the urban management of sustainable development with experts from the British, German, French, Spanish and Singaporean international standards committees.

Its successful experience in fostering a high-end biomedical R&D industrial cluster on Guangzhou International Bio Island has been recorded as an excellent case in GB/T 40763-2021, which is a national standard for urban and community sustainable development.
