Double-cropping rice achieves high yield in Huangpu

Luo Xiwen, the leader of the acceptance expert group and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, announced the double-cropping rice reached a yield of 1,509.5 kilograms per mu (0.067 hectares) at the Huangpu Demonstration Base's late rice test site on Nov 26.

This figure means that Huangpu district has become the first area in Guangdong province where the yield of early rice and late rice in the same field has exceeded 3,000 jin per mu (21,428 kilograms per hectare) of double-cropping rice. Luo said that the successful development of Huangpu double-cropping rice is a guarantee for national food security and a great help to increase farmers'  benefits and incomes. 

"Academician Yuan Longping's last wish has come true, and we did not disappoint his trust. We will continue to work hard along the goal set by him, and we will surely deliver better and better results," an official of the Huangpu district bureau of agriculture and rural affairs said.
