Updated : 2021-11-22

WeRide, an autonomous driving startup from Guangzhou's Huangpu district, has forged strategic cooperation with GAC Group to make its driverless taxis available for booking by the public on the group's Ontime ride-hailing platform by 2022.

The cooperation brings together WeRide's autonomous driving software and hardware with GAC Group's automobile R&D and mass production capability, and Ontime's smart ride-hailing platform. It will accelerate the scaled operation of Robotaxis to provide a safer, greener, and more cost-efficient and convenient travel experience.

Currently, GAC Group's AION S vehicles are already equipped with WeRide's latest sensor suite, and is connected to the Ontime ride-hailing platform for scales tests. Test rides are available for the public at this year's Guangzhou Auto Show, which runs from Nov 19 to 28.

In recent years, Huangpu has cultivated and brought in a number of key autonomous driving projects with core technologies and a wide-reaching influence from well-known autonomous driving companies such as Baidu Apollo, WeRide, and Xpeng. It is striving to boost the intelligent and green transformation of local traditional pillar industries like auto manufacturing and chemical engineering.
