Huangpu proposes lofty goals for next five years

A series of goals for the next five years have been proposed at the first session of the 2nd Huangpu District People's Congress, which opened on Oct 26.

It is expected that Huangpu will achieve an annualized GDP growth rate of around 8 percent and foster 100 national "little giant" (specialized, elaborative, characteristic, and innovative) enterprises, according to the government work report delivered by Xian Yinsong, acting head of the district.

Local industrial output value is to surpass 1.4 trillion yuan ($218.5 billion) and State assets are to exceed 1 trillion yuan by 2025. The fixed-asset investment will surpass 1 trillion yuan during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25).

Construction of Guangzhou Metro Line 7's second phase and the east extension line of Guangzhou Metro Line 5 will be completed, and that of Huangpu and China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City (CSGKC) high-speed railway stations will be advanced. Huangpu residents will be able to reach major cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area within one hour.

The public schools in the district will enroll more than 65,000 extra students over the following five years. Construction of Huangpu University will be pushed forward, and Guangzhou Jiao Tong University will begin enrollment.

In addition, construction of the Nanfang Hospital in CSGKC and the Affiliated Women and Children's Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University will be completed. The renovation and expansion of the Lingnan Hospital and Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center will also be finished. A total of 5,000 patient beds will be added to the district's hospitals.
