Huangpu provides fertile ground for SMEs to thrive

A press conference was held by Guangzhou's Huangpu district on Oct 19 to announce the achievements made by local small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and decode the secret behind their success.

As of now, Huangpu is home to nearly 40,000 SMEs and over 2,100 national high-tech enterprises. Both numbers rank first among national economic development zones.

SMEs constitute more than 80 percent of local industrial enterprises above designated size and more than 80 percent of local high-tech enterprises. In addition, over 80 percent of the invention patents and technological innovation achievements come from SMEs.

The vibrant development of SMEs is connected to the strong policy support and optimal business environment in the district. 

Huangpu has rolled out a series of measures to boost the development of strategic emerging industries including IT/ICT, artificial intelligence and biopharmaceutical sectors. All-round support is available for funds, talents and platform construction.

In addition, the district has taken the lead in the country in applying blockchain technology, artificial intelligence, 5G and big data in government services, and to realize an intelligent instant processing of 100 administrative examination and approval affairs.
